Scrolling by clicking the mouse wheel

So you know how in Windows you can scroll web pages by clicking the mouse wheel and moving the mouse to scroll?

Anybody know if ubuntu is capable of that?

Isn't that an application-specific feature? It works in FF and Thunderbird, but in none of the other programs I have tried it with.

In Firefox you need to enable it under Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General > Use Autoscrolling

auto scroll works in chrome and opera
chrome with an extension and opera it is a setting
