I've just installed the latest Karmic Ugrade on my desktop. The problem started when I was ask to update my video drivers for NVIDIA.

Now when I boot I get three error messages, a language issue and I can't ESCape to the GRUB menu on start up to drop a prompt shell
Error messages:

Could not update ICEauthority file /home/brian/.ICEauthority

/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with error status 256

"Your home directory is listed as '/home/brian'
but it does not appear to exist. Do you want
to log in with the /(root) directory as your home
directory? Its is unlikely anything will work
unless you use failsafe session."

What can I do here? I can't access the desktop. All I see is the desktop background.

on this thread, they solved the issue

It doesn't work for me because I can't drop to root shell prompt. I can't access the GRUB loader menu on start-up. Even when I press ESC of F11, it just keeps booting to automatic login.

How can I fix this?

Help!!!

I'm stuck here! I'm using my laptop, but I need my desktop.

I can't access the Grub Menu to log in recovery mode and drop a root shell prompt.

This is either an automatic login problem or has to do with the NVDIA driver.

HELP!!!!
