Karmic: Blank screen with live cd, resolution too high?

I booted to live cd to install Karmic, but my monitor says "Out Of Range: 92.8k 58Hz". So I instead install Karmic with the alternate cd, but when it boots up I still get blank screen.

Tried 2 CRT and 1 LCD monitor all claim resolution is too high.

Is it possible to change resolution from cli without creating an xorg.conf file.
