Xsplash with Kubuntu (9.10) - How?

I saw some neat stuff done with xsplash, and I'm wondering if I can use it with kubuntu as well. Documentation seems a little sparse, so I can't really tell much beyond the fact that xsplash requires GDM, and I'm not even sure about this :P

What do I need to do?

Yeah i would like to know why kubuntu does not use xsplash.
