I'm not very experienced with Linux and My English is not perfect, so I'm sorry if this is simple...

I'm currently using KBuntu 9.04, but I would like to move to UBuntu 9.10. When my computer was set up, I was told that it should be easy to change systems because I have two partitions. In the prepare partitions screen with the 9.10 CD I see '/dev/sda1 ext3 /' and '/dev/sda5 ext4 /home'. I do not worry about anything on the first one. If I click format on the first one and there is no check on format on the second one, can I be sure my data on the second partition is not going o be erased?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, if you don't format /home, the data should be safe, that said, it's a good idea to take precautions and backup before upgrading. As a side note, from what you describe, it looks like you are reinstalling and not upgrading, if terminology matters at all.

Thank you for the assistance :). I will run backups before I do reinstall just to be safe.
