I've tried OpenOffice and Abiword and they are just way too buggy. Are there any alternatives out there?

I'm running Karmic.

Have you considered that maybe your OS in general is buggy, not just those two programs? Not saying its true, just wondering if you've considered the possibility. Could you describe what problems you have with them? Do they have the same problems in common? Do the problems happen in any other unrelated programs?

Google Docs is the only thing I can think of besides Abiword and OpenOffice, unless you want to try the latest versions of one of those (from the Abiword/OpenOffice websites, not from the repositories.) I know installing OpenOffice from the OpenOffice website is a hassle but often worth it, not sure about Abiword.

Sun VirtualBox -> Windows -> MS Office

Or just get used to Open Office, its not that bad, but is buggy when switching back and forth OOo <-> MSO.

Try LyX. It's a pseudo-WYSIWYG LaTeX text editor/ word processor.

It's lightweight and makes reports look excellent.

Have a look at Ted (http://www.nllgg.nl/Ted/). Relatively little bloat and bling, but enough features to get the job done (or most of them).

I have never had problems with open office. Perhaps it is worth looking for it in installed programs in your synaptic package manager and reinstalling it. Could be that will sort it's bugs. It may also be worth taking a closer look at your java, which is often buggy.

Have fun with Word Perhect (http://www.wordperhect.net/).
