View Full Version : [kubuntu] Kubuntu 9.10 flashing/won't boot problem

Hello -

Please bear with me as this is my first experience with any Linux-based item. I'm trying to build a HTPC, and decided to try using Kubuntu (please feel free to tell me if there's a better solution you'd recommend).

I installed Kubuntu and it was working OK during installation, however, once I rebooted it will not load. I get stuck on the startup screen where the picture of the hard drive appears. The screen flashes and the hard drive animation starts over. It'll stick in this loop. If I click the mouse, it just flickers to black and the startup HD animation begins again.

Do you have any ideas? If it matters, I am running:

Athlon T-Bird 1400
Biostar M7VIG 400 motherboard
1 stick of 512, 1 stick 0f 256 PC2700 RAM

I'd really appreciate your help! I am already feeling like I may just be in over my head. Please don't send me back to Billy Gates! I don't want to run XP on here! ;)

P.S. - please speak as layman as possible. Like I mentioned - my first attempt at Linux, and I am an accountant by trade! Thanks in advance! :)

What video card or video chipset do you have?
What happens when you boot the Kubuntu live cd?
I don't use a linux HTPC but if I was going to use one I'd go with Mythbuntu.
Open adept or synaptic and do a search on mythbuntu and install all the "mythbuntu" stuff.
An excellent HTPC forum is www.avsforum.com
