Another /. story: Some of you may remember I told you about Shannon's attempt to get into a Kindle's operating system in episode 605 of Hak5. (http://www.hak5.org/episodes/episode-605). Well, a team of hackers have done something similar (http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/09/12/14/1515215/BampN-Nook-Successfully-Opened?art_pos=7) to the Barnes & Noble ebook the "Nook". They managed to get root access to the machine, and the result is a miniature computer running Android and with free cellular connection to the internet. Their progress is documented on their wiki (http://nookdevs.com/Main_Page).

How did they even get ahold of the Nook? I think its a step up for ebooks, but its impossible to get outside of eBay at the moment, because B&N "misjudged" the popularity.

Mine wasn't supposed to ship until Feb. 11th, and it showed up today unannounced.

So on some level they have to be making up ground on the back-orders, two weeks early was a HUGE surprise.
