Kubuntu software packagers are hard at work preparing KDE Software Compilation 4.4 beta 1 packages for testing. Keep checking back for more updates.

I've been working with 4.4 b1 for about 24 hours. It's pretty smooth and stable, a bit "snappier" than 4.3. Not too many bugs for a beta either--although some things did get borked.

I've read that a lot of people are having compositing problems on certain video cards, although I haven't had that issue.

It's certainly a beta 1 with all the crashes and weird quirks that entails, but there's some new fun stuff in it. Especially the Qt 4.6 animation framework that smoothens stuff up. 4.4 will be interesting come release.
