I've been using Ubuntu for three years now and installed all versions as and when they were released. That is until 9.10.

I've tried to run 9.10 from a live cd and all I get after the initial menu is a monochrome Ubuntu logo; then when I hit escape (in the hope something will happen/display) all I get is a black screen.

My system has NVIDIA video card which has always worked across all versions of Ubuntu except 9.10.

I've also tried all options via F6. Is this an inherent bug introduced in 9.10? And if it is a bug how long until it is fixed? I've since reinstalled 9.04 which works perfectly.

hi the various 'gotchas' with nvid & ati cards are discussed in the sticky at the top of this page --> http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1305459

There is a way to install the driver, at boot time from the cd on there.

Should get you up & running.
Regards,

Phill.

Are you using NVIDIA card with old AGP interface? If yes, that is known bug which was discovered during Karmic's Beta but it did not get fixed.

It happens only if you have NVIDIA AGP card which uses PCI-e to AGP bridge chip. (ie. GF7 and GF6 series)

Sorry for the delay in replying. I've tried to install with the driver on CD but nothing happened! I've since downloaded 10.04 alpha and the bug seems to have been fixed. So I think I'll wait until 10.04 is released. Meanwhile - thanks for your assistance.
