Hello All,

I am very new to Ubuntu and the package manager.

What I need to do is this:
I have an 8.04 system that I cannot install software on directly. However, I need to be able to put a JDK (specifically OpenJDK) on a mounted drive, so I can run Eclipse. This mounted location is the only place where I can make any changes.

How can I do this? On some platforms a JRE/JDK is available as a .zip file and I can simply set my paths so that java points to the correct place; however I do not know if that's possible on Ubuntu.

Thank you,
Rose
