The Meaning of Google

"Google"
"Googol" is the mathematical term for a 1 followed by 100 zeros. The term was coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner, and was popularized in the book, "Mathematics and the Imagination" by Kasner and James Newman. Google's play on the term reflects the company's mission to organize the immense amount of information available on the web.

Bing is an onomatopoeic word for that sound your microwave makes when it's ready, or elevator doors opening, that type of thing.

I guess it means "ready!" and also they probably wanted something that could be easily changed into a verb. "Oh, I'll just bing it shall I?"
I'm going to punch anyone who uses bing as a verb in the face. ARGH that would be so annoying.

All bing, no thing.

Maybe the catch phrase of the next run of Microsoft/Bing adds?

Fortunately i don't have tv or radio so I can choose what ADDs I want to hear.

What about "google"? People use that as a verb.

I like that because it's funny, it's a good sounding word.

Bing is horrible. Bink would be okay, but the ng sound... this: http://www.hylandmadrid.com/images/hlc-pronun/en/consonants/ng.gif

it's one of the uggliest sounds in the English language. and the i - "ih" sound is so aggressive.

Google is a nice gentle word, like what a baby would say. Bing can't even be pronounced properly by the majority of people on the planet.

I'd just like to take this opportunity that the world's most successful software company was named on a misspelling.

The word is not "Google", but "googol" - Sergey and Larry misspelled the word "googol" when creating their company.

It's relevant because the OP is misinformed about the nature of the name.

Also, this isn't about the meaning of Google, Murdock, and Bing, it's now "how many ways can we make Bing a backronym".
