extending display with remote X session

i've got ubuntu installed on two computers - a desktop and a laptop. currently im using synergy to share the mouse and keyboard between the two but i want to be able to move windows across the screens. i dont need the laptop, i just want the screen. is there anyway i can connect to the X session on the desktop from the laptop and extend the screen on to it and be able to do that?

I finally got Synergy working and it's awesome.
