cannot change emerald themes

I know that subject has been up before but I've browsed through most of them and I haven't found the solution.

I've installed CompizConfig Settings Manager, I installed Emerald. I wrote emerald --replace on the command line, improted some Emerald themese and when I hit Alt+F2 nothing happens. Can anyone help?

I use gnome-art (synaptic) program to get new themes installed from, well, Gnomeart.com
