Volume panel gone

at my top panel where the volume should be it is gone and my volume button is not working i need a way to fix that can some one help me get this working

Try right clicking on your gnome panel, selecting 'Add To Panel', and then selecting 'Notification Area'.

If not, could you post the relevant part of the output of the lspci command? It may be helpful to do lspci | grep -i audio.
