Yay for installing themes as root? Here's a hint for the Debian devs, if the package doesn't need root privileges to install, maybe dpkg shouldn't use root privileges to install it.

EDIT: Also, why does the theme need to be in a Debian package exactly?

...And it looks like we've recovered from those "database errors."

it shouldn't be in a .deb package
but it wasn't a screensaver

dpkg doesn't know where the package comes from and doesn't know the user thinks it's a screensaver. exept for the title the package never mentioned to be a screensaver and it was never intended as one.

the user doesn't know the screensaver shouldn't be in a deb package and doesn't need root privileges.

the problem with dpkg is unsolvable without restricting the users own freedom
you can't force the user to learn anything and you can't force a user to not install a package when he really needs it and it isn't in the repositories
and you can't expect every user to inspect the source

and you can't force an intern to work when there is no work to do and you don't pay him. damn you boss, give me something to do already :p

still something wrong with the forum
tipped out is isn't the last poster in this thread :|

*snip*tipped out is isn't the last poster in this thread

It's funny you say that... I was not paying attention to his name in his post, I was going by his avatar (that I just glanced at quickly) and assumed he was frak! I need more coffee...my attention span is shortening... :-|

EDIT: I went to get another cup of coffee and guess what! I just understood what you meant by your comment! It's also happening in the Thunderbird thread. I keep refershing, but it does not change.

It's the strangest thing. We don't even know if it's being addressed by anyone. I'm sure there are others that are aware though.

My blog was /.'d in that article too! How do you think they found the thread... =P

Oddly you'd think a story like this would be more popular/interesting than Docky gaining panel mode, how to install Picasa 2.6 in Ubuntu or how to get windows Aero Snap in Ubuntu... but those three (Gizmodo, Lifehacker and lifehacker again respectively) gave me more hits in a day than this article.

I know the site was down for a while earlier and obviously something is still broken.
