hardy heron & future upgrades

just a quick question right now i am happy using hardy heron 8.04. when the new LTS os comes out what is the best way to upgrade to the newer os.

and also how long is hardy heron 8.04 going to be supported.

i would say clean install. upgrades tend to bring many problems.
hardy will be supported till april 2011
