View Full Version : [ubuntu] grey sceen on live cd startup

:confused: i put the live cd in then it spins up i press 'try ubuntu without...' and it loads then when the desktop comes up it [the screen] is all orangeish grey with [sometimes] the mouse then [sometimes] it comes up with a blue square which then developes into a window but there's nothing in it just the close button and the icon whch looks like some sort of chip [computer chip!] also if i go 'install ubuntu' all it does is come up with the desktop background and the mouse what do i do my book has nothing what so ever!](*,)

Please tell us all about your hardware, especially video.

ah yess well i have a 15" crt monitor a VIA board a 128mb ram (brand: no idea) and a 1ghz intel cleron i just plug the monitor into the board and my mouse is a usb pluged into a ps2, ps2 keyboard.:oops:

That's not enough memory to install Ubuntu.

"System requirements

"Ubuntu is available for PC, 64-Bit PC and Intel-based Mac architectures. At least 256 MB of RAM is required to run the alternate install CD (384MB of RAM is required to use the live CD based installer). Install requires at least 4 GB of disk space."
