I recently have tried to reinstall ubuntu. Iused to have it on my laptop with xp and had to remove it for space issues.
I started by burning a cd then restarted my desktop. It came up to select language, then I went to install unbuntu. Part way through I got an errror and the install failed. So I went out did a check disk it had bad spots on it so I burned another it finished with some bad areas on it. I went to the slowest speed for about 5 more disks they all failed. Anyway, I had ubuntu send me a disk. Every time I try an installation it takes me to a login screen. Like I have ubuntu installed. But I don't. I'm trying to install ubuntu on my second hd. I have no idea what the login or password might be. I don't know what to do?

Hey, shansen,

The login screen on a live CD seems to occur when there is something wrong with the CD or CD drive. I would recommend installing from a USB drive using USB-creator (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Live_USB_creator) (in Ubuntu) or Unetbootin (http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/) (in Windows).

Good luck!
