Hi, gave my brother a copy of ubuntu to load onto his computer but having trouble getting it to boot. Have tried f2 and f12 etc and changing bios to boot off cd/dvd but with no luck. Anything he is doing wrong? He wants to do a full install and get rid of windows.

many thanks.

It sounds like CD is not bootable. Did you burn it as an ISO not just copy the ISO as data to the CD. Also you want to burn at the slowest speed possible for best quality.

I purchased cd and have used it on my computer. Think it's a problem with it being a dell inspiron 1501? and not being able to set bios to boot off cd/dvd rom

If it is a really old computer it may not boot from the CD. If the BIOS gives it as a choice it should be able to boot. There are ways to use a boot floppy to boot a CD. I think one way was with supergrub.
