Hi all!

Waning: I'm so very new to Ubuntu (and any other Linux package for that matter) http://forums.cgsociety.org/images/smilies/blush.gif

Last night I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an older AMD K6-2 machine (see specs at end of post), and although everything went fine, Ubuntu was installed in French. I don't recall have seen it giving me an option. Windows 2k is still installed, in English.

Any idea how I can keep this from happening again?

Thanks in advance guys :)

Hi Welcome to the forums,

Try this ...

System>Admin>Language.

I get language choice when i go to log on, but i may have added something for that !!

When you are installing Ubuntu you should get a window with language selection, use the tab key to get to the one you want and press space-bar if it does not highlight itself.

Regards,

Phill.

Btw, I went to System/Admin/Prise en charge des langues (Babelfish translation: Assumption of responsibility of languages), it's the one with the blue folder icon (I hope is the one you meant). The second dropdown menu shows French (Canada), when I open the list it shows more French options (Belgium, France, etc), no other language whatsoever :(
The following button below, says "installer/supprimer des languages..." which suggest that I could install other languages here. However, once there, it only shows French as a choice, and it doesn't give alternatives as to how to install other languages :(

What now?

Hmmm.. never played with language packs -- but they're over here --> https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-langpack/+archive/ppa (https://launchpad.net/%7Eubuntu-langpack/+archive/ppa)

There are instructions on the site. Maybe someone else knows of a different route.

Odd .. my installez des langues gives me a long list of languages to import - I think you need to allow it in you repositry, which is detailed in the above link.
