the very best is:
http://www.tvbrowser.org/en/screenshots-mainmenu-7.html
it works 100 pct and requires just internet, no login (screenshot (http://www.aptgetupdate.de/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/bild-8-2.png))

I'm the developer of FoxMediaCenter (http://fmc.isgreat.org), which has an EPG with xmltv support, PVR, Playlist Manager and more. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I'm currently working on a new version, which will have a simplified interface, support for DVB TV cards and Windows OS.

There is also TVFox (http://tvfox.bplaced.net/).

I don't think this is what the OP has in mind. Sopcast is a streaming application, not a TV guide.

For people in the UK, TVCatchup (http://www.tvcatchup.com/guide.html) is good for watching tv, they also do an XBMC plugin i think.

Nope. The programs we are talking about are Electronic Programming Guides (EPG). They allow you to list TV schedules and sometimes record from a TV card. They all support xmltv (http://wiki.xmltv.org/index.php/Main_Page), which is a standardized way of distributing TV programming schedules.

BTW, there are some EPG programs for Linux listed on the xmltv project site (http://wiki.xmltv.org/index.php/XmltvRelatedProjects). I know these works on Linux:

* gShowTV : A TV program schedule viewer and a Personal Video Recorder GUI
* OnTV : GNOME Applet for monitoring current and upcoming TV programs.
* skXMLTV : Superkaramba XML TV Viewer (for Lunix/KDE)
* XSLTv : Browser-based viewer for XMLTV listings.
* TV-Browser : Java application to display personalized TV/Radio program listings (can use a converter to read XMLTV style files)
* FreeGuide TV Guide : Java-based application to display personalised TV program listings, uses native XMLTV support.
* TvFox : A daily program guide for Firefox
