hi,

when i go to the office site for download ubuntu the 64 bit version says

ubuntu-9.10-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent (http://releases.ubuntu.com/9.10/ubuntu-9.10-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent)

can i use this version with a 64 bit intel processor ?

Thank you

I don't understand why they wrote desktop-amd64

Thank you

AMD came up with the x86-64 instruction set. Intel expected everyone to buy into Itanium for 64-bit. When it was clear Itanium depended on compliers nobody could write, they joined the x86-64 bandwagon.

SO the amd64 moniker is to insure AMD get credit for a very useful innovation and enhancement of the x86 architechure.

So yes, amd64 is what you wnat for your 64 bit Intel CPU unless you actually do have an Itanium.
