View Full Version : [SOLVED] Minimum free disk space upgrade 9.04 to 9.10

I was wondering how much free space is needed to ensure a successful upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10

Older posts seem to suggest that 1.5GB has been sufficient for previous upgrades. Is this still true or should I allow for more space?

Whilst you can install Ubuntu into a pretty small area. I'd recommend a minimum of 10GB for a standard install 9GB for / and 1GB for /swap. More for / if you're going to be saving video files.

I'm a little limited on disk space on an old laptop and have 6GB for / and 3GB for /home and the remainder is swap.

I'd like to do an upgrade from 9.04 but have only 2GB free space on /

Is this likely to break the installation?

Upgrades are dangerous (scan through the forums). I recommend a fresh install of 9.10 (assuming you have tested the 9.10 live CD extensively) rather than an upgrade.
