Install PostgreSQL

Hi All,

I'm fairly new to Linux, I need to install postgreSQL on my machine. I have downloaded the "postgresql-8.4.1-1-linux.bin" file but don't know where to go from there.

I am using Linux Ubuntu Karmic Koala.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Same here. There is a graphical interface under Applications - System Tools - pgadminIII . Open it and there is nothing. I follewed the instructions here http://www.google.com/search?q=karmic+install+postgresql&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=com.ubuntu:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a and managed to set up a table. Back at pgadminIII again - no server.
