Hey all

The Background:

- normal Ubuntu 9.04
- install KDE 4.2.2 -> kubuntu
- update kubuntu 9.10

Now my KDE doesnt start anymore.
I get the blue "kubuntu"-progressbar and then there is nothing more than black screens...

I get into the console, but cannot run any of the display-manager.
Neither gdm
(Failed to acquire org.gnome.Displaymanager:connection:1.19 is not allowed to the service...)

nor kdm ( no errortext ).

When i choose the ubuntu "recovery" starting mode i get a grey form, telling me:
"ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode. The Following error was encountered. You may need to update your configuration to solve this".

I suppose, that somethning went wrong, when the updater tried to update to kde 4.3 ...

any got an idea?

It seems, i repaired it.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

The problem seemed to be solved, but it isnt really...

I did "dpkg-reconfigure" as seen above and restarted.
All went fine.
But then i restarted again and i had the same problem again "ubuntu started in low-graphics" and again three black screens...

Edit:

X-Server & kdm only start, if i did the dpkg-reconfigure before...

Error-Messages are the following:
"(EE) Failed to load module freetype"
"(EE) HID: failed to initialize for relative axes"

Hey there its me again.

I managed to run KDE again by removing gdm.conf. I suppose there were conflicts between KDE and Gnome.

There is still one problem left:

- Lotus Notes can't visualize the email-folders...
- VMwarePlayer tells me that 3d graphics aren't possible and even 2d-graphics may lack some perfomance...

Before i updated to 9.10 and KDE 4.3, everything was fine... I suppose, the Nvidia-graphics-driver don't work properly. I already installed the previous nvidia driver, but it didn't help...
