View Full Version : Gnu chess - will not castle -why?

I thought I would try Gnu Chess, just to see how quickly it would beat me (the outcome would never be in doubt!).

I assumed that if I moved my king two squares to the left, for a king-side castle, Gnu Chess would move the rook for me. It doesn't - the king moves, but the rook stays stock still. (I haven't attempted a queen-side castle yet.)

I did a bit of searching on this, and I don't think I'm doing anything wrong (neither king nor rook has moved, it wouldn't be moving through "check", etc.).

Any hints? Thanks!

David

Have you moved either king or castle? That is another reason why you would not be able.

Oh and GNU chess does do castling when I play it btw.

Thanks Rinzwind. Turns out the reason it wouldn't castle is because I'm a bigger idiot than I thought: was trying to castle the queen!

Sigh.... #-o Sorry about that.
