I have an old mini-laptop with no CD, no USB boot (or BIOS read) capability, no floppy, and so on. I've had to remove the HDD and format it bootable to a dos prompt from a win98 disk. I have a small partition (800MB) on an otherwise unpartitioned 6MB drive. I've installed Grub for DOS, and the special "text only installation" ISO of Ubuntu for low-memory machines installed in the root of the boot (and only) drive. (I have 256M of RAM, and that's all that can be installed). I've followed several slightly conflicting directions on using grub, and I've Googled to no avail (for the amount of time I've spent on this, I could just BUY a Netbook, grrr). Is there any _authoritative_ document on how to install in this situation? This is a really cute machine (a Thinkpad S31) and I'd like to use it. TIA.
