I voted Europe because I was born in France and lived there all my life until I moved 10 years ago (I'm 35 now). I have been living in the USA for 10 years now.

I started using Ubuntu with Feisty Fawn (Ubuntu 7.04) so technically I am an Ubuntu user from North America.

I was not sure I had the right meaning of "from" so I hesitated between Europe and North America. ;)

Close enough. :P

Why didn't you move to Quebec in Canada? They speak French there.

put my vote in Europe, as I have been living in Germany for the last 14 years, but the 32 before that were in Australia where I was born.

Not on a continent here: New Zealand (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand).

Doesn't New Zealand usually count as part of Oceania?

I said North America, although I've so far spent 11 years in North America and 11 years in Asia. I decided North America wins out, because I'm living there right now.

Oceania isn't a continent though. NZ is usually said to be part of Australasia, anyway. Which is also not really a continent.

I'm from there myself, but I voted Europe because that's where I live.

I like how Canada is in North America. That means you can call them Americans.

It depends on who you talk to, but Oceania isn't really a continent. The nearest continent is Australia.

Yeah, true. I was reading the poll options. Then again, the concept of a continent is rather arbitrary in the first place haha.

the answers in this poll do not go hand in hand with the results from the previous polls about this, so I deem this one skewed.

btw why central america? since when did it break free from north america?

*added*
I forgot... why include turkey in europe instead of in asia as it actually (geographically) is.

and Pacific Island???
aren't they split between asia, australia, north america and south america?

Just have it simple.
People know what continent they belong to. If they don't and cannot find out, then perhaps you can have additional "Other" option
Asia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asia), Africa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Africa), North America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America), South America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_America), Europe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe), Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_%28continent%29) and other (Mystery Island) (http://images.neopets.com/maps/island/mysteryisland_2005_02.gif)

In what sense? Britain != England. Britain = England & Northen Ireland & Scotland(for now) & Wales.

Hwæt
December 8th, 2009, 01:35 AM
btw why central america?

Why not? Part of what we call Central America is actually divided between both South and North America. Just including all of Central America as North America would be even more inaccurate.

Turkey is in both Europe and Asia. If you look at the map below, you'll notice that it has a chunk of the Balkan Peninsula within its control.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/dd/Turkey_%28orthographic_projection%29.svg/600px-Turkey_%28orthographic_projection%29.svg.png

Also, take a nice look at what the UN calls Europe:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/fc/Map_of_Europe_%28political%29.png/800px-Map_of_Europe_%28political%29.png

As far as I can tell, the UN calls Turkey and Russia European countries.

Which is why I just stated "Pacific Island" to reduce confusion.
