Hello guys,

This is my first time post ):P

I'm a new Linux/Ubuntu user :D I just installed it on my windows Vista via Wubi and its AWESOME (a bit weird for a first timer) and I know I'll get used to/like it ;) BUT I just un-installed it to see how easy that is and WOW Wubi is a good software!

My question is, Can I install it on a new retail version of Windows 7 (professional 32-bit)?

I will install W7 now!

because when I browsed the Wubi site http://wubi-installer.org/
it didn't mention Windows 7 in the Win-OS list? so can I install it like if its vista or should I wait?

Thank you all

Sari.S

It's really hard to say because there have been LOTS of posts about Wubi installs failing with the combination of Win7, Ubuntu 9.10, GRUB2 -- and no one has come back with any solutions yet.

Of course, we're probably NOT hearing from the folks that have been successful.

However, I would STRONGLY suggest booting from a 9.10 LiveCD before you try the install.

Thanks for your answer but how can I install it with a LiveCD

by the way I downloaded this almost 700MB ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso file how can I burn it on a CD or DVD to install it?

This is one of many ways to burn, just make sure you do not just copy the iso to the CD but choose a method that creates a CD. (Ubuntu does this automatically;))

I am not a big fan of Wubi unless you are just trying it out and want a faster version than the liveCD is. As you have noticed it is just a program running in windows. Once you decide you like it and want to use it, a dual boot is preferred. If it is Wubi and you have windows problems you cannot get into Ubuntu. If it is dual boot you can still boot Ubuntu since it is a standalone syste.

Welcome Sari :D

Yes that is the 32 bit version. You may burn the iso to a CD which is why the distro is just under 700Mb for a regular CD.
