Ex Lostprophets and NIN drummer Ilan Rubin's solo project The New Regime's album Coup is available for free (320kbps .mp3) and it's quite good.

no ogg? They fail. In all seriousness though, how bad would a 320kbs mp3 encoded to a 192kbs ogg be?

transcoding is never a good idea.

I know this, I can live with 128kbs mp3 quality, would transcoding a 320 mp3 to 192 ogg be better than that? I like open formats :D

do a double blind test yourself. i like open formats too, but not at the cost of quality.

Just listening through the songs. All of them are pretty good, and they hit within the genre I hear most. :KS

I like NIN but all the songs sound the same and generally in the same keys. Good drummer though nice feel.

its melancholic and melody driven but with some electro and industrial bits thrown in....quite interesting really.

I have discovered however that I literally can't listen to "Haunt my mind" on headphones...because the little clicky noise makes me think my brain is exploding :s

lol, i just listened to that through my headphone amp>denon ah-d2000's and it doesn't annoy me, but i can understand how it would annoy some XD

smart move to get attention.
he seems somewhat talented, but this genre isn't what I would prefer so I know I will not appreciate his talents anyway.

Have a look on youtube and you will find a ton of younger players who are accomplished, but don't have the fame or fortune.

And here is one of the best drummers bar none.

except he's an accomplished drummer, pianist, guitar player, vocalist, and song writer.

oh, he wrote, recorded, and played all the instruments in the 10 tracks of Coup.

yeah, there's lots like him. laff.

The only thing more I will say is that this just shows how little you know about music and are just glad to read the credits.

This is pop culture man it is far from being anything comparable to what a average studio musician can do.

lol, i'm a musician, kid. but i get it...you're one of those that only likes the unsigned bands/musicians. once they get signed, they "sell out" and you're no longer interested.

have a good time in your plastic bubble, sparky.

It's a wee bit more than just clicking on a link though, isn't it? One link, then another, then give over an email address, then go to your email account, then click a link in the email...

Did I miss anything?

Anyway, I feel cheated. All that clicking and downloading and extracting... and for what? A bunch of crap. The New Regime fails.

you could have easily played some of the songs on that first page via streaming video, but you didn't did you?

you failed.

Okay, one man's trash is another man's treasure. If you don't like it, aren't you glad you didn't pay for it?

As for band's selling out the the record labels? well some do and some don't. It's a matter of opinion really. I personally consider everything U2 has done in the last 10 years to be nothing but record label garbage. But I forgive them because of all of the charity work they do considering none of them need any more money.

I defy you to call someone like Tori Amos or Radiohead a sell-out. Just keep in mind that for some selling out is their entire goal in life. Just watch american idol. None of those contestants are there because they truly want to make some profound impact on the world, they want to earn some lettuce.

By the way, I'm going to copy write the note "b-flat." Anyone who records any music containing that note must pay me royalties.

You're seriously complaining that you had to click too many times? You didn't pay for it, so it's not like you lost anything. Give me a break.

i think (hope) he was being a bit sarcastic.

everything has a price. in this case, it's giving them your e-mail so they can send spam. hopefully not to much. i wouldn't mind them e-mailing me down the road when they are going on tour or release the next album.

This is good.

It`s never going to get in my top 100 but, if I`m free, if they`re there, if I can get a babysitter, I`ll go see them.

And I`m guessing that`s the point.
