Hi

This sounds like a daft question, but how do I tell whether I'm using KDE or Gnome?

I don't think I did anything special when I installed Ubuntu a few months ago, so I assume I am using Gnome, but I have a load of games with a suspicious K at the start (KBlackbox, KBounce, KBreakout etc) which all work fine so maybe I'm using KDE.

At least it should be a simple answer.

If you have a System, About GNOME menu, you're using Gnome.

Hi Ann

Many thanks, I am using Gnome - I'll start reading the right bits of Linux Format now ;)

Does your splash screen say "ubuntu" or "kubuntu" when you start Linux? Is the default colour scheme brown/orange or blue? Is your "start" menu at the top left or bottom left of the screen? If your answer to all the questions above is the first one you are probably using Gnome, else you are probably using KDE.

If your default file manager is called dolphin you are probably using KDE.

Google search for the Gnome and KDE home pages and look at the screen shots. See which look most like your environment.
