Hi everyone,

I hope this is the appropriate category for such a dilemma. :/

Several days ago, I proudly downloaded and installed Ubuntu 9.10, and was
ecstatic to discover everything I needed was detected, and operational. :)

The ease of configuration excited me, until I ran into a brick wall: Dual monitors.
I've installed Ubuntu on a Toshiba Satellite L10-194 laptop, which uses an Intel® 855GME Graphics Controller. While I can mirror my desktop, at first I couldn't extend it onto the second, as I was used to doing on Windows.

Whenever I set both the laptops monitor and the external monitor at 1024 x 786 resolution, both screens go dark, all that remains is the mouse pointer (which I can move between both screens, which I hope is a good sign). After the 30 seconds or so, it reverts back to mirroring, thankfully.

I can extend it if I set my external monitor to 800x600, but I can't live like that. :(

I've been Googling this for the last 5 hours, and all I keep finding are people with nVidia cards, or people that complain, then post back a day later saying its working, but won't say how. 0.o

Please help me, interwebs!
