So, should the Ubuntu developers take this and run with it? Not sure what advantage we might gain from it, but could be interesting.

EDIT: Seems I misread (or just didn't read) the part at the end, about this being aimed towards Consumer Electronics manufacturers. Ah well, still nice they opened it up.

The License (http://www.samsung.com/Products/Semiconductor/FlashSW/lld_download.htm) is a non-copyleft, GPL-incompatible license:

LIMITED LICENSE. Samsung grants to you a nonexclusive, nontransferable and royalty-free license to use, modify, reproduce, and distribute the Software for the sole purpose of enabling Licensee Products to interoperate with Samsung OneNAND memory. You must reproduce and include all copyright notices and any other proprietary rights notices appearing on the Software.

OWNERSHIP. Except as expressly licensed above, no title, ownership, or intellectual property rights of any kind, express or implied, are transferred to you, and all right, title, and interest in and to the Software remains with Samsung.

Another one for restricted-modules, eh?
