Hey there!
I'm going to try to install ubuntu to my old windows ME computer. I was just wondering, before I waste time downloading it and burning it to a cd, which version of ubuntu would be the best to install on windows me. Also, would it be laggy. I am not home at the moment, therefore I cannot give you the specifications of my computer, but I can tell you that it is windows me and can run a video game called star wars knights of the old republic 2. There is some lag while running the game on lowest, settings, but only a little bit of lag when there is alot of things going on.
Please let me know which version of ubuntu to install and if there will be any lag.

Are you planning on replacing ME or dualbooting?

Your Star Wars game won't run natively in Ubuntu so you'll have to try using wine to play it. Wine is an emulator type program designed to run programs designed for Windows. No guarantees that it will work though.

As for choice in which ubuntu you should install, I would say try Xubuntu first but even that may not be best for a computer that old.

Hi and welcome to the Ubuntu forums.

Windows ME is 32bit, so consider the 32bit version of Ubuntu 9.10.

Also, would it be laggy. I am not home at the moment, therefore I cannot give you the specifications of my computer, but I can tell you that it is windows me and can run a video game called star wars knights of the old republic 2. Without actual specifications it is impossible to provide a valid answer.

This may assist you:

UPDATE:

Here are the recommended specifications for Windows ME.

"Recommended system specifications

* Processor: Pentium II 300MHz
* Hard drive space: 2GB
* RAM: 64MB[24]"

Clearly less than the recommended specs for Ubuntu 9.10. You may wish to consider a lite linux alternative.

You can test Ubuntu 9.10, without installing, just run it as a live CD.

It really depends what you wish to achieve as to how to proceed.
