error code+0x73/0x80

when i tried to boot the live cd on my machine i got the code in the title

i have no idea what that code is for

im running on a old compaq if it matters

its been a week now and no answer, in retrospect i should have said this in the beginning

if it helps im running an old compaq with hardy installed, i ran the disc for karmic and when i went to start up the live cd desktop it gave me the error in the title

is this a error in the live cd or is it on my machine

im inclined to think its my machine as anytime i try to upgrade to anything beside hardy it bricks my computer

it may relate to my graphics card with is a ati 9250 that plugs into a PCI slot (not pci-e just pci)
