Slow running

Hello there, I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 on a Sony Vaio laptop.
Runs ok for a time then starts going slow then freezes up. When starting up again will not let me reboot from Hard drive. Any ideas.

Does it let you reboot after it has had time to cool down?
If it does, it sounds like something is getting too hot. Maybe the HD?
How old is the machine?

Hi, Yes will reboot if left to cool down. Machine about 4 years old. Did have Windows XP on before ubuntu.
