In KDE 3.x, there was an icon on the desktop called, "computer." Clicking (or double-clicking) on that icon brought up an applet showing the OS information, mounted volumes, network shares, CPU information, memory and video information.

Is there such a thing in Gnome? I've not been able to find it by asking my buddy, Google.

System/Administration/System Monitor is the closest thing I have seen.

sysinfo

sudo apt-get install sysinfo

Okay, that worked. Not as elegant as the old KDE 3.5 version, but it works. :)

Thanks!

Yeah, there is a certain elegance to KDE's sysinfo.

And if you ever want a lot more detailed information there is always hardinfo.
