Hello, I am helping a friend put ubuntu 9.10 on her acer aspire desktop with 512 ram and 64 bit amd. During the install, it freezes at 5% under partitions formatting. Underneath it says
Creating ext3 file system for / in partition #1 of SCSI1 (0,0,... I have put ubuntu on at least a dozen older computers than this one and have even been faced with the 5 percent freeze before but usually lowering the write speed of the install disk settles the matter. I am now desperate for ideas as I don't want to brick her computer.
I have tried lower write speeds all the way down to 1x.
I have tried the text installer in the lowest write speed.
I have tried a usb install.
I did the memory test and it passed.
I tried older versions of ubuntu.
I'm not a superuser but I know my way around and have fixed this problem before, but I am fresh out of ideas. Is there anything else I can try? I really want to get this working. Thanks in advance!
