Okay, I would like to start off by saying that this just happen to me and I noticed it the other day to.

I was browsing and I did something like right click the taskbar rreal fast cause the thing was really really slow and now my running icons are gone, Here is an example of what I'm talking about. Whne you open say emesene or rythembox and it's running there is a icon to show that it's running we'll those are gone off my tasklbar and I was wondering how do I get them back cause I'm tired of having to leave programs and stuff minimized when I could have it closed and still running.

Another thing on my desktop it was lagging and then sometimes my icons dissapear and I go to my deskto folder and it still shows them there but I can't see them and I have to restart because they won't ever come back,

Any fixes to these problems, It would be muco appreciated.

I think you moved or deleted the notification area applet, from your taskbar.

1.Right-click your taskbar
2.Choose Add to Panel
3. Choose Notification Area
4. Click add

That should add it back to your tray.

This will fix your problem. In a Terminal
rm -rf .gnome .gnome2 .gconf .gconfd .metacity reboot and this will restore the icons to default.

Have fun

I get something like this when I reboot or power up. It took me 3 tries in rebooting to get the notification area to come up (apps, places, system, etc). Wall paper and desktop icons are there, just NOTHING across the top of the screen.

Do what that dude said in the above post
