If there where one gadget you could have this holiday season what would it be?

Personally, I'm buying a New Toshiba laptop for my Christmas gift to myself. :D Need something I can take to school with me next semester.

To be honest, all I want is the chance to move into a bigger place. Kind of cramped around here. The only other thing I'd want is a printer.

Indeed, and being a medium format it's supposed to give far better results than most current digital cameras, at least in some specific uses.

Thats more down to the photographer than the camera. Any camera can take great shots, not all photographers can. Some of the shots I've seen recently at an exhibition were taken on Holga's. Depends on what effect you are trying to achieve as well.

Pretty much my situation. I asked for my family to take all my old books and clothing to the library and donation center downtown.

I've had 18 Christmases full of presents... it's time to calm down a bit.

... but I did ask for a coffee mug ...

I didn't bring this up because we're supposed to be dependent on others to buy us our gadgets. This is the time of year I buy gadgets for myself.

No we're not 12 years old anymore. I'm 30 years old, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna grow up any time soon. No kids and a job that pays me $52,000 a year and I only have to work 3 days a week. Going to college payed for by Post 9/11 GI Bill = no worries.

Yeah I got a long way to go before I have to grow up. Now, gadgets!

This, except floorstanding. There's a small place up at Marion with an excellent rep, incredible prices and they do custom jobs. I'm going to see about getting a custom pair of 3-way floorstanding speakers with a reasonably low crossover and optimised for entry-level (read: affordable) receivers. All their stock designs are unfortunately designed for high-end amplifiers (150-180 watt, 8ohm).

On the shopping list for others so far is:
- Decent micro/midi hi-fi for parents.
- 'New Moon boardgame' (what she asked for, eldest niece is a little odd).
- PS2 games for nephew.
- Tinkerbell DVDs/merchandise/whatever no one else is getting her for younger niece.
- ...think I've already got something for youngest niece. Now comes the task of locating it.

I use the r3610 model as my main desktop. It's a wonderful machine, you'll be very pleased with it.

As I can tell the major difference is that mine came with 4gb of ram rather than 2 but that isn't likely to make a difference.

Get a PS3. Little Big Planet alone is enough of a reason to get one, let alone the Blu-ray and everything else.

I want a Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT. And a 4GB memory kit. And a new SATA hard drive. And Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. And The Orange Box. And this. And that.

On the shopping list for others so far is:
- Decent micro/midi hi-fi for parents. - Done; Panasonic SC-PM54.
- 'New Moon boardgame' (what she asked for, eldest niece is a little odd). - Not done but is apparently available locally.
- PS2 games for nephew. - Done; God of War seems appropriately boyish.
- Tinkerbell DVDs/merchandise/whatever no one else is getting her for younger niece. - Done.
- ...think I've already got something for youngest niece. Now comes the task of locating it. - Done; turns out it was a bunch of books.
Also know what to get my sister; portable HDD - not done.

Christ, shopping kills me. Probably shouldn't have loaded up on gumbo, ribettes, shrimp and Buffalo wings beforehand.

Also found something for my xmas wishlist: Ginetta G4 reproduction (http://www.dareuk.com/g4.php). Probably just wishful thinking.

Oh, come on. Six pages and nobody has said it yet?

:-\" "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth..."

Seriously, my trusty but long in the tooth Toshiba Satellite finally got too much to manage with its constant and random power failures (caused by a worn out power pin). So I replaced it with this (http://ryderduncan.com/rydertech/2009/12/01/review-asus-eee-pc-1101hab-seashell-netbook/) and this (http://ryderduncan.com/rydertech/2009/12/02/review-hp-pavilion-dv6-1355dx-15-6-notebook/) (reviews complete with notes about how well Ubuntu works on each). Christmas came early for me, though it was more a work/school-related tool than an outright present.

Oh, who am I kidding? I love computers! (Except for when I hate computers.)

Ha... a Ginetta... awesome. I would love to get my hands on any TVR. Especially a speed 6 like the one in Swordfish. All I really want for x-mas is happy people all around me. None of the bullpucky of life. Just good people, good food, and good times.

But I'm not going to get either of those. So I'll probably buy myself a printer. Or maybe something like this (http://www.johnlewis.com/230723475/Product.aspx?source=14798).

I love those old film TLRs. But if you want a medium-format camera, how about one of these?

http://1.2.3.12/bmi/a.img-dpreview.com/news/0503/pentax_645D-001.jpg

Of course, the Pentax 645 Digital is little more than vaporware (http://www.neutralday.com/rumor-pentax-bringing-back-645-digital-medium-format-camera-but/). But Pentax regularly claim (http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/news/PMA_Pentax_revives_medium_format_digital_camera_pl an_update_news_278069.html) that they're going to actually start selling the beast. I'll certainly ask Santa to keep an eye out for one.
