View Full Version : [ubuntu] Just freshly installed 9.10 - why no GRUB2 ?

I thought that the default bootloader installed by 9.10 was GRUB2. So I was a little miffed, on doing a brand new install on a company laptop currently running Vista (my boss *finally* agreed to see Linux in action) to find Grub classic installed.

Luckily it works fine (even connected to the wireless network immediately), but I was taken aback.

Is it easy to upgrade to GRUB2 ? Will it correctly read the menu.lst and keep the Vista boot safe ?

After reading around more, I came across this (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2), saying that grub2 is a dummy package, which, even after upgrading to 9.10, will appear to be uninstalled. Perhaps my reinstalling wasn't the source of my current problem?
