View Full Version : [ubuntu] problem with grub

i just installed ubuntu 9.10 on my portable hdd.i loaded the grub boot loader on the portable hard disk itself (sdb 1) as i didn't want to disturb my windows in any way. now when i boot from the portable hdd, the grub loader takes alot of time. if i try to change the boot preference in the grub loader menu, it just hangs.even if i press the enter key while the ubuntu 9.10 option is highlighted (the default selection) , it just freezes for about 20 seconds, so the only way for me to boot up from the grub loader is to wait for the timer in the grub loader to run down to 0 after which it automatically selects the first option and boots.
i installed the os again but the problem hasnt gone away

If you leave it alone it boots, so where's the problem?

i forgot to mention one more thing.sometimes there is no timer in the default grub loader.nd when there is no timer,it takes a terribly long time, sometimes as long as 3 minutes to boot.
