So I've flipped to another OS.. I received a large discount on a Early 2009 Mac Mini, otherwise I would have stayed with my old rig.

You need the Universal Theme Patcher.

http://deepxw.blogspot.com/2008/11/universal-theme-patcher.html

Then search on Deviant Art for Windows 7 RTM themes.

For the 10th time, :P , it's avant-window-navigator. It's set to "floaty" mode, and the theme is edited to be almost entirely transparent. The icons are from the hydroxygen set. And the version I have is from their ppa (https://launchpad.net/~awn-testing/+archive/ppa).

Thanks for the reply. I will need to give that a try someday. It looks like they have added some nice features. I use openbox as a window manager and I'm still in search of a suitable panel to use with it. So far my choice is the XFCE4 panel. Tint2 with stalone tray runs a close second place. ;)

It has a bug with my intel graphics card. A choice between huge fonts, or pixelated fonts with a workaround. Anyway, it's also too heavy for my GPU and CPU.

And yes bright themes better integrate with everything (unfortunately?).

And yes bright themes better integrate with everything (unfortunately?).

Not necessarily. Yes by default everything integrates better with light themes, because web pages are usually light, but you could use custom css sylesheets.

With userstyles you can make web pages match your dark themes, thats what I do. Its does take a bit of effort, but I have somewhere around 30 pages bookmarked and every single one of them has a custom userstyle to match my theme. That covers about 95% of my daily browsing.

You can see a video of my desktop with userstyles here
(quality and framefrate kind of suck because its my first ever youtube vid and i had no idea what i was doing, but I think you get the point)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dlnuu9lRicU

As you can see everything is fairly well integrated, my gtk, gtk2, qt3, qt4, and userstyles all match the same dark theme.

What do the intel drivers have to do with running kde? I think the answer probably lies somewhere with the distro itself, or perhaps the version of intel drivers used, because Intel drivers work perfectly fine for me with kde in openSUSE, and Arch, and Slackware, and Mandriva. I can run kwin or even compiz on all of those, I can even play games like nexuiz and warsow. Have to admit Ive never tied with Kubuntu though.

It has nothing to do with running KDE. It just the fact that Intel drivers suck in Ubuntu ATM. In result, my would be installation, failed due to graphical glitches.

Yeah, I've been considering that. It would make things look more consistent, but on the other hand, the window borders wouldn't blend in with the rest of the window, which I really like. It's a trade off, I guess.

The newer versions of Fedora (11, 12) allow you to install the system with a basic video driver. This should fix your problem. However, you, in theory, wouldn't even have to try that, since Intel graphics cards have been relatively simple to set up in Fedora.

Try that, if you want. It's more KDE than Kubuntu and it's at least a linux distro until you get your laptop.

Here's my contribution (unfortunately on ******* since I haven't got the net working on Kubuntu yet)... (there should be a file here somewhere, if this works correctly). Nice and uncreative, but I'm a fan of space.

I found it on APOD (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html), but unfortunately don't recall when. A Google search for "Eagle Nebula" should yield the same thing.

Here's one that will blow all your minds:

138338

I originally left the desktop on the default because I was going to write a proper review of Karmic (which I still may do). I took ten million screenshots but never wrote the bloody thing, and in the mean time I got used to and grew to appreciate the default theme.

I could list all the source information about this theme like the thread rules say, but something tells me you all might be able to reproduce this theme pretty easily. ;)

Something I'm currently working on based on one of my previous themes, Manganite. I completely desaturated the theme and tweaked some of the theme settings, including the scrollbars and panel.

I then created a Cairo Dock theme to match the panel background.

Here are some of the theme details:

Icons: Eikon
Wallpaper: Less is Moar (http://lassekongo83.deviantart.com/art/Less-is-moar-107522142)

The theme is called Caesar, customising is far more complicated than even in Windows actually. Thankfully the Mac modding community seems to have a tendency of following many of the trends set by Apple themselves; a very small selection of products of a limited scope, but pulled off with immaculate taste and quality.

EDIT: Holy crap, being compressed once and then processed again by imgur completely destroyed my screenshot. Ah well, you get the gist from it.

The smiley faced conky would have been looking rather pissed today so I ditched it. Plus it wouldn't fit the wallpaper, would it? lol
I opened some theme files and I must admit I'm a bit daunted about making my own, but I want to make a more compact dark murrine theme. Couldn't find one that I liked. So I'll give it a go.

Firefox theme?

edit: assuming its grayfox, how did you get the forward/backwards buttons to theme properly?

Yup, it is Strata40 with StrataBuddy add-on.

Damn KDE looks good... nice setup, I like the light olive green colour.

Thanks. What music player is that in the 3rd screenshot btw?

It's cmus, although there's no music player in the 3rd screenshot but in the 2nd :P :)

Here's mine for today. Admittedly I have too much free time...

A new theme and Conky setup in less than 24 hours?....yeah, you really do seem to have too much free time. :P
I like the colours, but that conky/lua thing on the right (next to the time) looks funny to me.... reminds me of Mickey mouse ears, for some odd reason. :?

Question about Cmus:
Does it come with presets or an equalizer?
I personally use MOC, but the presets aren't great for all types of music (it's decent for jazz, rock, drum n bass, but useless for dubstep or house, for example)

Cheers~

Yeah those disks do look funny but I didn't know what to do with them. Perhaps I might comment them out. lol

I have no idea if cmus has an equalizer but I suspect not. If you have pulseaudio I read somewhere about a global equalizer plugin, but again I'm not sure. The best solution is what I did: get a deck equalizer and be sure that you've got good sound no matter what you use :P
