Because of the advanced powersave features compared to gnome? At this point this is the only really major reason I choose Kubuntu over gnome for laptops... if gnome had a better powersave feature it could be better on laptops I think.

I think Kubuntu is better for desktops. I have used GNOME on a laptop once, it worked well, I never hibernate or put them to sleep though, I always shut them off when I do.

Anything important will be shared.

I'm not sure if gnome has an easy gui for autodim or anything as nice as kpowersave, but the functionality will be there

In fact pulseaudio means gnome should save some power over kde.

Xubuntu runs light as far as cpu usage. It also supports gnome and kde programs readily.

Kubuntu is so slow on my laptop that ubuntu is blazing fast compared to it.
