View Full Version : The Win funniest blue screens of death!

On the first day of Christmas my computer gave to me... you know how it goes... I have 12 blue screens of death, unfortunately only can attach 5. It's funny to see that not only the average user suffers to have that freaking screen when you need your computer the most!

The first one is actually where they put a BSOD into a fast slideshow for a NIN gig. The person taking the photo just happened to take it at the right moment to make it look like it had blue screened.

In the local Co-Op, they have these touch screen monitors running on Windows. They constantly get pop-ups from someone who keeps trying to send virus files to them.

At some cinemas here, Puerto Rico, I've seen these machines in which you retrieve tickets bought over the internet with BSOD's and sometimes with just win2k not running the app.

Same, my local cinema has an XP ticket machine which is connected to an open WiFi network. Its almost always BSODd :)

I've been using both Linux and Windows for a long time, and over the past ~7 years Windows gave me 1/10th the trouble that Linux did, and I most certainly never had to recompile anything for Windows in order to get it to work right. Take Firefox, for example - the Linux version runs slower and frequently crashes for reasons unknown. I don't think I've seen a BSOD since Windows 98!

I know how to induce at least 3 different variations of the BSOD. It just depends on what system process you kill...

The one from the Paris Hotel marque was widely rumored to have been caused by hackers from the infamous "hackers convention" held in las Vegas every year. The Rumor was false, but it spread because the error occurred while the convention was being held.
The hotel was in the process of upgrading some hardware and hadn't worked out all the kinks. The "kinks" where worked out the following week when the adult film festival was held in Las Vegas.

this is because after windows 98, they implemented a "feature" into windows that wouldn't show you a BSOD, but rather your system would simply stop responding or spontaneously reboot. Uncheck the box under error reporting that tells the OS to hide system faults, and you will see your trusty blue friend again.

Uh, no. I still get BSOD's in Windows XP. This was because of a driver issue, purely my fault, but that's not the point.
BSOD's are still in Windows OS's.

That's partially true, but I didn't experience any freezing / restarts either. I've had more problems with Gnome, and restarting gdm alone takes about as much or more time as restarting Windows 7!
(I'm not here to bash Linux, I use it daily, I just don't like irrational anti-Microsoft backbiting. They make a decent product for a wide audience that voluntarily chooses to buy it. Can't we all just get along?)

I just tried win7 on the weekend, I like Linux the most, I fell for Ubuntu and love to have it customized to the kernel :D

What is the problem? You all laugh at this but I remember a thread like this and one person posted a airline that had a kernel panic. Now instead of people laughing at it, the were all glad it used linux. Sure, laughing a computer errors is funny but a lot of people in this thread are very selective.

That looks like old school init booting up. The Tux logo is usually the first thing you see when you boot Linux in the raw.
Kernel panics in Linux are rarely actually visible because the kernel historically lacks control of the video output (mode setting), thus it's not possible for the kernel to ninja control of the video if something like X (or whatever the hell they use in that head display) is running. So there there really is no visual equivalent to the "BSOD" on Linux, maybe one day. :)

Yeah, an incompatible driver are the reason for BSOD's the majority of the time. To get around this, you just go into Safe Mode and uninstall said driver.

Patience my dear, just be patience... I'm actually pretty glad, in my country, the government finally opened to new ideas and they won't buy W7, they plan on train people to use Linux and implement it on every office. Also in public schools, they are announcing the change, so that's an advance. And my country it's not the only one. :D:D

As far as I know, 90% of new linux users, including myself, have migrated to another OS because just had it with the previous one, so yeah! there will be some remorse...
The times I've had problems with Ubuntu, it has been either myself or a hardware malfunction and always has solution or at least I can boot on a live CD and retrieve my files. Back when I used windows, that was the main reason, I lost all of my files and a 6 months worth work down the drain, it took me 8 days to type in all the data and 5 minutes to loose it all. (It was a virus and my pen drive got !"·$ along). So yes I HATE IT!!!
