My video card is Nvidia 7600GS. The system was working as a dual monitors on Intrepid. I have just upgraded to 9.04 and restarted. Only one monitor works the other flashes blocks of colour.

Nvidea X server settings:

When I run this program it reports that

You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.

I then tried re-installing the Nvidia drivers

System > Administration > Hardware Drivers
. Check (or tick) the box underneath Enabled to enable the drivers.

Item 2 does not work properly.

The recommended driver is 180. By the side of the activate button it says This driver was recently disable but is still in use. I clicked activate, but nothing changes.

Currently I am running on low resolution.

What should I do next?

Currently both screens are showing the same view. The flashing blocks have gone away. No improvement in other respects.

Whilst waiting for help, I upgraded the nvidia driver to 190. It has not been a success. It did not install properly. However, it appears in the list of hardware drivers. If I try to activate the 190, nothing happens beyond it installing the driver. It says that there is another version of the driver in use, but none of them are showing as installed.

Here is my xorg.conf

I have just rebooted the machine and I now find that the dual screens are working. It was the upgrade to 190 that did it. I followed the advice here:
