Do any of you still use them? I do.

Simple + Redmond ftw.

I really really want a theme that makes my desktop look like an Ncurses-based display; you know with the red, blue and yellow windows; with the square drop-shadows, with the [] for checkboxes and the () for radio buttons.

That would be truly awesome, and a perfect match for the ASCIIquarium KDE screensaver.

I know people harp on about preserving resource, but preserving them for what? The whole point of having uber RAM or a dual core is to use it!

I have 4GB RAM and only around 600mb's is used despite the fact i run compiz, themes, docky, chrome, xmind, and, hell, even RAM sucker Banshee! And it never goes over 1gb despite having all of these running at the same time! So...
