Hi,

1.What do you guys think of Blender 3D?
2.Where does it stand in comparison to $3XXX.XX (OMG:o) softwares like 3ds Max, Maya, etc?
3.Just curious about animation. Do you have to be a computer scientist to be an animator?

Thanks all.

1/2) Dont be miss lead by Blenders lack of cost. Its one of the best 3D imaging programs on the market. Its not say better or less then Maya and such, its just open source version.
3) Just got to have good artwork skills, no program out there can fix skill. Also you just have to familiarize yourself with your tools. This will come from practice.

have you had a look at these http://www.blender.org/features-gallery/blender-open-projects/ the idea of the projects was to show that blender can be used by artists and animators to do real things (and to fix up issues they found).

Blender won't cost you money, but it will cost you time to learn how properly use it. Maya/3Ds and so go on are engineered to be quickly usable from lack-of-skill to master-of-art.

With blender you can reach the "master-of-art" exactly and in the same time you will reach that level with pro software. The trade-off is that you weren't helped by a intuitive interface.. so increase your level is more frustrating with blender.

The real BIG vantage of Blender is that it's always free...
this mean: the last version, the last update, the last new astonish technology will come always at the same price = 0$/€.

Saved money from the cost of blender can be used, anyway, to buy licence for some plugin.. like voodoo for cameratraking, and more complex physics library (anyway, already the excellent "bullet physics" come for free) :KS:KS
