This is a second thread on the installation of Ubuntu desktop on a Dell Poweredge 1400sc. The other thread dealt with problems regarding installation of the alternative disk (disk error found even when I tried burning additional copies).

For this thread I'm trying to install 9.10 desktop (not alternative). After I choose Install Ubuntu from the boot menu I see the white logo on the screen fading in and out for a minute or two then I get a blank screen with a cursor blinking in the upper right corner. After a couple of more minutes I get the following errors message:

[492.216630] Kernel Panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

Any ideas? I'm about to give up on Ubuntu and try something else.
